James W R Linton was a British artist, teacher and craftsman who had studied metalwork under Harold Stabler and was active 1869 to 1947, a leading exponent of the Arts and Crafts style in Perth, Western Australia. Together with his partner Arthur G Cross they produced jewellery and silverware including spoons. His elder son James Alexander Barrow Linton (Jamie) was born in Perth in 1904 and studied metalwork at the Central School of Arts in London in 1925. He returned to Perth and went into partnership with his father and died in 1980.
